C.E.R.T. 2007 Training Sessions VIII - Terrorism and CERT

The following pictures were taken on Saturday, 17 November 2007 at the Woodbridge Police Substation Training Facility at Woodbridge Center Mall.

Sergeant First Class Juan Munoz of the New Jersey State Police, Office of Emergency Management, Field Training Unit was the guest instructor.  He shared his years of experience and knowledge gained as a member of the New Jersey State Police Antiterrorism Unit with the candidates and some of the team members.  His presentation was OUTSTANDING and very informative. The Woodbridge Township C.E.R.T. expresses our appreciation to SFC Munoz for taking time out of his busy schedule to be with us on a Saturday morning.

Sgt. Munoz opens the session with a summary of his background and his current position with the Field Training Unit.	Both candidates and team members listen closely to the sergeant's presentation.	Sgt. Munoz pauses for effect during his presentation.	Even the team members were "blown away" - no pun intended, with Sgt. Munoz's presentation on explosives.	Sgt. Munoz explains that even though New Jersey hasn't really experienced any terrorist attacks, it has been the starting point for many
Explaining how gang violence is a form of terrorism.  The picture shows a New Jersey State Trooper patrol car vandalized by a gang.	Sgt. Munoz comments about a picture being displayed.	As can be seen in this picture,  every eye is fixed on the screen while Sgt, Munoz continues his presentation.	Sgt. Munoz's presentation style drives home his point time after time.	Candidates Ray Burgio and David Frantz seem spellbound listening to Sgt. Munoz's presentation.
Sgt. Munoz finishes making his point before moving on to the next topic.	This slide appears on the screen accompanied by a loud bang that got everyone's attention very quickly.	Sgt. Munoz shows a video about the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.	All attention is focused on the TV screen as we watched the events of the 1993 bombing displayed.	The scene shown on the TV screen shows a victim of the 1993 World Trade bombing being evacuated.
Needless to say, no one napped during this class!	Sgt. Munoz reviews the things CERT members should be watchful for and how to report their suspicions to the proper authorities.	Closing in on the end of his presentation, Sgt. Munoz asks if there are any questions so far.	Sgt. Munoz explains what to expect with the decontamination process.	Sgt. Munoz completes his presentation as Course Manager Joe Formola and Team Leader Lowell Aube prepare to make a presentation of their own.
