One of the five (5) team members qualified to conduct CERT training classes.
Joe is a United States Navy, Vietnam Era Veteran. During his time in the Navy, Joe attained the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class (E5) and was a qualified Plane Captain, A-4 Taxi Pilot, Maintenance Team Leading Petty Officer, Collateral Duty Inspector, and Flight Line Troubleshooting Team Leading Petty Officer. His additional training included basic firefighting, both aircraft and structural; damage control; both armed and un-armed combat, and security.
Joe and his wife Jackie have been married since 1969 and they are both natives of Brooklyn, New York. They moved to Colonia in September of 1976. They raised two children, their son Joel, and their daughter Nicole. They are now the proud grandparents of Joshua Robert, son of Joel, and Amelia Grace, daughter of Nicole.
Retired after thirty (30) years of service as an application programmer with IBM, Joe has held jobs with Smith Barney, Reuters, Security Information Automation Corporation (SIAC), Hartford Life Private Placement and is now pursuing a new career as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic.
In addition to being a certified CERT trainer, Joe is a certified CPR/AED and First Aid instructor/trainer at Community Safety Consultants in Metuchen, New Jersey. The certifications are from the American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute, and the National Safety Council. In addition to being a BLS instructor, Joe rides with the Metuchen Volunteer First Aid Squad and as a per Diem EMT-B for Woodbridge Township Ambulance and Rescue Squad.
As a CERT member, Joe is responsible for the team’s website (www.woodbridgecert.org) and acts as the recording secretary at team meetings and is responsible for personnel records for team members. He is also the Senior Training Officer.
In his spare time, Joe and his wife are ushers at St. John Vianney Church in Colonia. Joe is also a Eucharistic Minister there. He is very active with Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., and is the State Chaplain as well as the web master for the New Jersey State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., website (www.njscvva.org).
