The following is a copy of the column "Good Council" by
Robert G. Luban, Councilman, 5th Ward. It was published in the April 2007
copy of the Colonia Corner:
"Woodbridge Township as most of you are aware has a very large base of volunteers and organizations that enrich Colonia and all of Woodbridge Township. Last month I had the privilege of attending a meeting of one such group, the Woodbridge Township Office of Emergency Management's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
CERT is made up of ordinary people who volunteer their time. I was particularly impressed by their dedication. They are well organized and up-to-date on many search, observation, and rescue techniques. To develop new skills and sharpen existing ones on their own time they attend training seminars and participate in field work practice drills.
This group is the First Responders that are called in when the police or other towns need assistance. A few months ago a 47 year old living in a group home in Edison wandered away. Our people were the ones that volunteered to assist Edison in the search. The Mayor of Edison recently sent a commendation letter to Mayor McCormac recognizing CERT as well as thanking the members that participated by name in the search. One of the members I am proud to say resides in Colonia.
The CERT team wants to grow and is looking for new members if you are interested in becoming a first responder on this team you can contact me through a letter expressing your wishes in care of Woodbridge Town hall at One Main Street (Attention Municipal Clerk), Woodbridge, 07095. I will forward it to the proper people.
In ending this month I hope all of you enjoy the wonderful spring weather."
